METAdrasi is an Athens-based non-profit organization that the Greek America Foundation has partnered with on various projects.
The organization provides critical support and services to tens of thousands of refugees and migrants in Greece, particularly to unaccompanied minors.
METAdrasi’s work was recognized this year by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, which awarded them the 2019 Humanitarian Prize — the largest humanitarian prize in the world.
METAdrasi is one of six Greek charities that met our criteria and was selected as a designated charity that we support financially via our Project Hope for Greece #ChildrenOfGreece campaign.
Furthermore, the organization is a critical partner of Greek America Corps, our volunteer program that sends North American volunteers to Greece.
In 2019 we sent 16 volunteers to support METAdrasi’s important work on the island of Chios, where they operate a shelter for unaccompanied minors and an education center at the refugee camp.
Greek America Foundation President and Founder Gregory Pappas met with the organization’s founder, Lora Pappa, and reviewed our work, shared insight from our 2019 volunteers — and agreed that we will once again send volunteers to Chios as part of our program in 2020.
Ms. Pappa conducted a tour of facilities that were piled high with blankets and other critical supplies being gathered and shipped to island refugee camps. She also conducted a tour of classrooms bustling with students learning Greek, English and other skills from METAdrasi’s teachers.
Financial transactions were reviewed pertaining to the GAF’s second gift of $2,600 that was raised by our volunteer team for supplies and other materials intended for the Chios shelter and education center.
METAdrasi is one of our six partner charities in our #ChildrenOfGreece campaign. The campaign aims to raise funds and awareness among North Americans about the challenges faced by the most vulnerable members of Greek society today — the children.
Our #ChildrenOfGreece charity updates are part of the Greek America Foundation’s commitment to transparency for donors. By staying in touch with the charities and following their work, we strive to share with our supporters the overall impact of our contributions.
